Thursday, June 12th, 2008 at 7:33 am olivetalks claims I posted last on the Rio Laser Hair Remover machine. That would make it… 6 months and 12 days ago. Up to then, I wrote a post on each of the 10 times I used the machine on my bikini line and the 4 on my armpits. Additionally, there was an update post with extra information which I wrote a week I could not use the machine but did not want to leave my readers without news. Those are 15 posts on the Hair Remover.
And then… silence.
Anna, Anka, James, Fozzy, Merel… and some others stumbled upon olivetalks and kindly wondered where had I got to. What happened to the hairs? What happened to the Rio machine? Should a Rio Laser Hair Remover machine be added to the Christmas wish list? LadyRostand, be a sport and give us an update, they pleaded.
So, because the end of the year is coming and I do not like having unfinished business/tasks carried forward to dirty the brand new year we all get on the 1st of January (a day when you feel you are forgiven for all the previous failed plans and you think you will be able to follow through all the “new” brilliant resolutions) and also because I feel I owe it all of you readers, specially those who have left comments (much appreciated!), here I am. It is Wednesday 24 December and I am about to publish the last Rio Hair Remover Machine post of 2008.
So what happened? Why did I suddenly stop?
If you read the 1st post of all, I said, and I quote: I intend to log [the use I make of the Rio machine] for 6 months, for two reasons: 1. they do say in the instructions it takes a few months/applications to see “real” results; 2. that’s how long I have before I’ll be going to the beach to suntan. That was on January 16th, 2008, so only 5 months since I started posting on Rio.
The boxing match day post was not the last day I used the Laser remover, for I actually used it one more time. Two weeks after that post, I grabbed the machine and I lasered my bikini line once more. As a farewell more than expecting much. Not because I did not intend to use the Rio machine again, but because I was leaving for holidays and after exposing the skin to the sun, they say you should not use the Laser Remover for a while (was it 2 months?).
So I left on holidays… and I had to shave. A few hairs seemed to be gone, but how could I tell if I had bold patches like TheAymster mentions on her last post if I was not sure about the initial density of hairs? Then again, if the results were so little visible, did the Rio machine do anything at all? I must admit, I could not care less while I was reading besides the swimming pool with the sun warming my back.
Then I came back from holidays and I knew I had a last Rio post way overdue. I even mentioned it in the somewhat apologetic post of August. And… I could just not get myself to write. Why? Well, if you have read TheAymster latest post on NoNo you have probably guessed…
I was bored out of my senses.
No, not of life, mind you, but of the Rio Machine. Using the machine is boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooring. Really really boring. I mean, I was so bored of using it, that I had to hide the box underneath some clothes so it would stop causing this boredom feeling from crawling up my skin every time I happened to glance in its direction. Even thinking about writing the last post on Rio was making me feel bored.
So…, did it work?
What, not thinking about it?
No, silly, the Rio machine.
Oh, I don’t know… Not much I think.
You should have used it more often to see results, some could say.
Puff! I would reply.
“Puff” what?
puff… zzzzzzzzz
I see… so… are you giving up?
Puff… no?
You mean you will try again?
Puff… I guess… in January… I could include it in my list of new year resolutions… I mean, if people are interested…

do it! do it! do it! we are interested!!
God, you are really patient!!! I can’t believe you could last this long.. And you have no idea how much this helped to make my buying decision. I think I’d prefer shaving and buying lotto tickets and wait for one day when I win a million and go to a salon to remove my hair
Hope I don’t overspend on lotto tickets though… But even then, will I have the patience? We’ll see
Thank you so much for your posts, I am sure you made so much difference for many people! Anna.
Hmmm, I just don’t know now. I guess I will find out how much it costs here first, as that may well influence my decision.
thanks for your posts!! you have a gift with words. i have wanted one of these for a while but now i see it will be so much easier proffesionally.
Thanks so much for documenting your trials with this product!
I just saw an infomercial on tv and was both intrigued and skeptical about the rio, especially since the wand appeared to only target one hair at a time (imagine how much time it would take to do your legs!), and as a result decided to see what people on the internet were saying. Your blog is exactly what I was looking for!
I probably won’t end up buying this product now that I see all the time you had to spend on it for not-that-noticeable results. Thanks again
I got totally engrossed with your hair removal ‘trials and tribulations’ and found myself laughing out loud (not a good thing when at your desk at work!).
I feel this product will be great for individual hairs and that is the reason I wanted to purchase one.
I can live with shaving legs and armpits.
Thanks for sharing your experiences, like the other ladies here, I’m very grateful.
My tip to others that are considering buying one of these units – Look on ebay, people are selling them for a fraction of the RRP.
Thanks again.
Hello, I was just wondereding, you know the few hairs that were isolated and you zapped them and they didn’t return? Were they zapped on scan mode also? or did you target them with the single hair choice?
Thanks for writing so much, I was so excited for an affordable hair removal machine, but I feel let down! Sorry about your boredom though, thanks again

Hi lm Catrine lm situated in Dubai and lm considering buying the machine for my daughter and myself. Tell me when you laser the hair say a week maybe 2 weeks, tell me did you pull the hair out of the folicle did it clide out or it just continues growing after its lasered why l ask is l have had my bikini lasered and you do feel that pin prick and the higher the frequency the painful the pricks become thats one thing they do not tell you when your going in for laser but any way when l had the laser done between 1-2weeks when the hair grew it literally eased out from the folicle as if the hair was sitting in a hole with nothing attached to it did you experience a similar effect? By the way l really enjoyed reading your blog well done! Regards
i also have the rio laser, and i really absolutely exactly know what you’re going through. i think there are some visible results or not??? maybe i see the results just because i want them to be there!!!
